Wi Fi Printers

Wi Fi Printers are available in inkjet or laser configurations and get rid of one more cable, which is always a good thing.

Wi Fi Printers are becoming more and more popular due to the proliferation off home and small office wireless networks. Wi Fi is a term used for a set of 802.11 standards for networks with no cable connections. Wi Fi networks use radio signals to send data and operate in the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies. Data rates range from 11 Mbps to 140 Mbps, based on the type of 802.11 network. So Wi Fi Printers have a Wi Fi network adapter built in to the unit.

All of the major printer manufacturers have Wi Fi Printer models of various types and capacities. The best Wi Fi printer really depends on your budget, the number of users, amount of printing, and the type of printing that is most common. You could also accomplish the same connectivity by installing a Wi Fi Printer server that acts as the network connection to any traditional printer too. But for our discussion today will stick with the printers that come with Wi Fi capability built into the printer itself.

Many of the Wi Fi printers come with automated setup software so almost anybody can install quickly and easily. Like any wireless connection, the distance and any obstructions can cause connectivity issues so always stay within the recommended range.

Budget And Prices: Many models with single features (printing only) start off as low as $50, multifunction (scanner, copy, fax) start in the $70 range. These are units are designed for low volume home or home office chores. The higher the speeds and capacity, the higher the prices go.

Features: These are standard models with a wireless network adapter installed in the unit. You can find a Wi Fi printer model with any feature that a normal printer has including scanning, fax, copying, duplex printing, and printing on CDs. Of course the more features, the more the printer may cost. Many of the first models were high volume printers for large networks and many users but now they are available in entry level models too.

Special Considerations: The ease of setup and installation is important, especially to non technical folks. Always check the installation procedures and look for automated software, most models come with a CD that you simply put in your computer and follow the on screen instructions. It does take a few extra minutes (many say to allow 30 minutes) to install all the software and networking features.

Warranties: All check the warranty to understand exactly what is covered and the length of warranty coverage. If you want additional protection, many retail outlets offer extra service agreements that can cover additional time and services. Probably not worth it on the low end models but if you get one of the more expensive units it might be worth the cost.

Wi Fi Printers have come way down in price and with the automated install software there really is no reason not to get one if you have a wireless network at your home or office.
